The Ritual of Contemplation

Here we compile a personal choice of Fine Artists with an affinity to the island of Menorca.

Today we hardly know how to see things or find time to. Our senses lose their sharpness in the excess of bustle, garish colours, and noise by which we are always surrounded. We must conquer and learn the most important sense of all: being able and knowing how to concentrate on what we do, having time to meditate, having a minimum of decency and freedom in our lives, with sufficient hours of repose in which to realise this way of living. We still do not have a room like the Japanese, where they isolate and honour their work of art with a sensitivity which has been trained since time immemorial.

Despite our Western vulgarity and the clumsiness of our hurried contemplation some of us have learnt intuitively to enter into that state of receptivity that is needed before we can receive the shock and all the release of associations of ideas that constitute artistic emotion.

The island is a uniquely fertile environment in which to create artwork. It stimulates artists in search of a lifestyle in touch with nature.
